Rescue Operations/Safe Haven
Most of the families contacting us about their horses are families facing short-term foreclosure of their homes and ranches. Most of them have no idea where they are going to live, and they are devastated at the thought of losing their horses and entrusting their horses' welfare to strangers. Rightly so. For many of these people, their horses have been their best friends and/or "children" for many years.
Cimmaron Sanctuary is actively seeking a donation of a large parcel of land which is suitable for housing a larger number of horses in need. Until that presents itself, we are working with other Northern California sanctuaries and people in our regional horse community to assist in finding homes for these horses.
The horses' stories are being documented here so you can get a glimpse of what's going on, how these horses are innocent victims of their circumstance and the humans around them, the human drama of having to let them go, and how all of this relates to all of us at this time.
There are many ways in which you can contribute and help this situation. Please volunteer, make a donation, spread the word, attend fundraisers! Get creative and decide to make a difference!
